Large Screen Sports coverage at Blackpools Sands, near Dartmouth

Yes, honestly - from now until 12th August you can combine two great activities on the same day!

Visit Blackpool Sands and the whole family can enjoy all the pleasures of the seaside with the excitements of sport on a large screen...

Sport will be broadcast ALL DAY, EVERY DAY between these dates.  There will be no extra charge to watch the sport and there’s free parking after 6pm.

There's a great beach cafe there too - Venus Cafe - where I have it on good authority there will be a bar available every evening and an outdoor BBQ - weather permitting.

Sun, Sea, Special Sustenance, and Sport on a Super Sized Screen - Sounds Superb..!

Fab new Dartmouth restaurant - twentysix

Just wanted to tell you about twentysix - a great new restaurant that has just opened in Dartmouth, about two minutes from our front door.  The owners already run a successful cafe in Teignmouth and if the culinary delights on offer last night were anything to go by, twentysix here in Lower Street should be a big hit.

Sunday Brunch
We went to the launch last night and were very impressed by the fabulous food (and bubbles...) and also by Denise and Richard, the owners, and the very friendly and helpful staff - so we just wanted to wish them well.

We think it's going to be great and well worth a visit if you are in town. Thank you chaps!

Squib Championship at Dartmouth

How lucky were we this morning? We'd just had a lovely early morning walk out to Dartmouth Castle as the sun was shining and it was WARM - yes, honestly - and grabbed a table outside overlooking the sea while we consumed our (delicious) breakfast of mushrooms on toast and very good coffee at The Castle Tearooms

As if this wasn't a good enough way to start our working day, on the way back we were fortunate enough to see all the squibs with their terracotta sails leaving the Embankment and heading out to sea - a fantastic sight indeed.

The only downside was, the battery had gone on the camera so we couldn't take a photo to share with you - so sorry! This is, more or less, what they looked like but it was oh so much more spectacular in the flesh...

It's mornings like this that make us realise - over and over again - how very lucky we are to live and work in Dartmouth.

Just another day in Paradise...

Translations R Us - visitors from afar...

Meant to write more last week but it was a busy time at The Crow's Nest...

We had the pleasure of welcoming a lovely couple from New Zealand who were travelling around England before heading off on a Scandinavian cruise...
...and a German family who spent three days exploring the South Hams and somehow managed to dodge the rain quite a lot of the time...

...and two couples from Australia who were also travelling around the country, with probably the biggest backpacks we have ever seen!

I was very pleased that I'd prepared a translation file to leave in the room following a visit from a French sailor a couple of weeks ago... our French is very basic indeed and it gave me the idea of translating the information in our presenter (courtesy of Google), so there is now a folder with translations in French, German, Italian and Dutch to help make life a bit easier for our guests.

I now know how to say 'sorry it's pouring with rain again' in four different languages...

'Nuff Said..??
